Interview conducted by Alan Cherry as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University on 4 March 1988. Smith talks about growing up in Chicago, Illinois as well as her family's experiences as Blacks in the South. She describes her family activities and her religious experiences. She talks about her marriages and her children. She discusses her conversion to the Mormon Church, its influence on her life, and her relationships with other Mormons.
